Year 9 Options
Year 9 is an important time for students, as they get to choose subjects they wish to study next academic year. In order to help with this choice, it is vital that parents and students are aware of the key dates and know how the options process takes place.
Most of the curriculum studied next year is directed by the Welsh Government. Therefore, students will study English, Mathematics, Science, Welsh, Religious Studies and Games.
However, students will also be expected to choose three optional subjects as well. They will continue these subjects throughout Years 10 and 11. Choosing the right options can be difficult for students which is why we endeavour to support students and parents as much as we can.
The key dates for this process are:
- Friday 14th November 2025 - Introduction Assembly for Year 9 students to explain the process.
- Wednesday 19th November 2025 - Year 9 Options Information Evening.
- Wednesday 19th November 2025 - Subject Information and Options Booklet available on school website and Google Classrooms.
- Wednesday 19th November 2025 - Free Choice Survey available on Google Classrooms.
- Wednesday 26th November 2025 - Free Choice Survey deadline.
- Monday 26th January 2026 - Year 9 Careers Fair.
- Wednesday 4th February 2026 - Meet the pupil event in school.
- Wednesday 11th February 2026 - Year 9 Parents’ Evening.
- Monday 23rd February 2026 - Options form available on Google Classrooms.
- Monday 9th March 2026 - Options form deadline. Forms must be completed by this date.
- Thursday 26th March 2026 - Confirmation letter to parents about pupil option choices.
