Safeguarding at Bedwas High School
Our school community has a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our students. If you have any concerns linked to safeguarding then please report back to the main reception or inform one of the following designated safeguarding lead officers:
If you have a safeguarding concern about an adult in school, please contact the Headteacher. If you have a safeguarding concern about the Headteacher, please contact Pam Scourfield (Chair of Governors) via the main reception. If you ever have concerns about any child, you can contact Children’s Services Social Care direct on: 02920 852558 or out of hours: 0808 1001727.
There is a child protection poster in all classrooms identifying the child protection officers.
All staff are told that if they have any issues that they would like to discuss regarding pupil welfare they come to see Mr Williams, Mrs Mertens or Ms Bird.
All staff receive safeguarding training every two years to ensure that staff are clear of the process to follow in case of a Child Protection disclosure. All staff have received the Child Protection guidance from the Local Authority and receive a list of vulnerable learners, as well as the procedure to follow if pupils are missing.
If staff see anyone walking around our school site without a visitors lanyard then they are expected to challenge them. Safeguarding leaflets are provided to visitors in reception highlighting safeguarding officer. All pupils and parents/carers are made aware who our Child Protection/ safeguarding officers are.
The Wellbeing team record any child protection/safeguarding concerns on a system called Safeguard My School. This system enables the Wellbeing team to track and monitor pastoral concerns and Child Protection issues.
